Description:

The main objective of the proposal was aimed at restoring the building of Gracia called La Violeta respecting the image of the original building designed by architect Jaume Gustà. The proposal focuses on the internal renovation of the building and it is within the building where the ladder is acquired much prominence creating an inner journey that accommodates the different program areas in a kind of 'promenade' which articulate the whole building. Once across the main street access Maspons, the staircase appears distributing all the spaces. The staircase comes up in lobby like a scenic way, jumping veneer facing in, and generating different views of the building.

Tipology:

Public building

Promoter:

BIMSA + Ajuntament de Barcelona

Situation:

Gracia, Barcelona

Year:

2009

Area:

1.100 m2

Description:

Project located in the middle of Gracia neighbourhood in Barcelona, between the streets of Sant Joaquim and Maspons.

Description:

The distributive scheme proposal consists of placing a rigid core consisting of wc + Lift which helps us to separate the project on 2 distinct areas: Staircase, access, rescepción - Bar, Theatre and various rooms. It is in the vertical lobby where we replace the original staircase, divided into several sections, with a new ladder, too theatrical, but by most recent findings: not by axiality but generating a space with many perspectives; addressing existing facades to lean out their holes leaving aside the purely functional aspect to create terraces and balconies that overlook the interior and exterior space and represent new opportunities for relationship between building users.
