Our team purpose the rehabilitation of a historic building of considerable architectural merit which is nowadays still useful for the educational purpose that was built. The presence of this building is reinforced by adding an extension building to complete the future needs of a primary school with new multi-purpose spaces, dressing rooms, classrooms, diningroom and new location for the children's classrooms and the nursery.

Area:
1.700 m2
Description:
The project is designed according to the existing natural ground levels. Among the streets Jacint Verdaguer and Sant Ramon was a drop of 1.30 m and we start from this topographic condition to generate 2-level that show up the relation between the existing building of the old school and the future extension building, solving the proposal in its functional way.
Description:
The project focuses on a serie of key milestones based on obtaining a prismatic volume that positively affects the control of the building execution and its cost reduction. Other main keys are the separation of the existing party wall in order to ensure lighting and ventilation of the new center, and the completion of a multi-purpose room of the school thought as an agora, understanding this space as a central element of the project linking the access to the major circulations of all central buildings.
Description:
One of the particularities of the project was the rehabilitation we made on the existing school building. The school built on 1916-1918, during the Mancomunitat Prat de la Riba politic process, by the architect Francesc de Paula Morera and Gatel.
Description:
The geotechnical study concluded there was a layer of sandy Quaternary argilas with a very low mechanical strength, which in some places reached 7 meters. This forced us to make a deep foundations in the underground. We propose a structure of reinforced concrete of slab of "forel" type in order to reduce the weight of the slab. The walls were made of waterproof concrete block and steel sheet baked painted.
Description:
The landscape was a remarkable fact to define the final appearance of the project. The proposal try to identify with their context by preserving the existing trees and taking into account for the facade and the perimeter fence, the colors and of the seasonal process of the Platanus occidentalis leaf that grows up in the site.
