The proposed design for the new Museum with a unique equipment and excellence in the Barrio de Mariola, a building which screened as an iconic element above the city that stood looking over 'La Seu Vella' from Lleida by a 'watchtower 'as close element to Gardeny castle. One of the objectives of the proposal was to create a gripping element to the ground, next to the landscape and that would answer an existing wooded setting item.
Empresa Municipal de Urbanismo de Lleida
The new museum of Environment and Climate is situated on one of the hills of the city of Lleida; Gardeny Hill. This situation in heigth above the rest of the country makes the new museum becomes an important reference point for the entire city. From the site (access point), the building faces the other city icon 'La Seu Vella'. Two buildings, two sights, two references that marks the city.
The project was set up respecting the existing trees and topography of the site. Their placement was made by those least wooded areas and leveraging that left for the demolition of the existing farmhouse parcel shelf.
The project conforms to the contours of the site. This fact made that the museum would generate a series of terraces giving to the viewer different views from different levels while taking always the reference of the city and its immediate surroundings.
